The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a special assessment scheme for Class 10 students in the Middle East, detailing how results will be calculated following the cancellation of main board examinations in the region due to prevailing conditions.
As per the official notification, CBSE had earlier cancelled some Class X board exams scheduled after March 5, 2026, in countries including Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. CBSE further noted that the examinations conducted from February 17 to February 28 were successfully completed. During this period, students appeared for six core academic subjects, including Mathematics, English, and Science, along with 16 language subjects and 22 skill-based subjects. The final results will therefore be prepared based on students’ performance in the exams they have already taken.
The Board stated that the results of students in the Middle East will be announced together with those of other candidates. It also mentioned that internal assessment marks, already submitted by schools, will be included in the final evaluation. These results will be considered final, and no additional special examinations will be held apart from those already specified.
To ensure students are not disadvantaged, the Board has outlined a tiered evaluation strategy based on the number of exams a student was able to complete before the cancellation.
How will the Marks be Calculated?
The newly issued circular breaks down the grading process into the following categories:
- Students appeared in all examinations:- The result of such students will be declared based on their performance in the examinations.
- Students appeared in 4 examinations:- The result of such students will be declared based on the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects for the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.
- Students appeared in 3 examinations:- The result of such students will be declared based on the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects for the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.
- Students appeared in 2 examinations:- There are very few students who have appeared in the examinations in only 2 subjects. Their results will be declared based on the average of the marks of two subjects in the remaining subjects.
For students from the 2025 batch or earlier who were registered for up to two subjects
- If they wrote their exams, they will be graded normally.
- If their exams were cancelled, they would not get an average score. Instead, they will be given the opportunity to write the second Board examinations later this year.
Students from the Middle East who had previously requested an examination center change to a different country are exempt from this new scheme and will be graded purely on their written exams.
Students will, however, have the option to improve their performance through the second Board examinations.
The assessment scheme for Class XII will be communicated separately once finalized.
The Board emphasized that all decisions regarding the assessment process are final and aimed at ensuring fairness and consistency for all affected students.
