The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant change in secondary education. Beginning with the 2026-27 academic session, Class IX will officially follow the new framework recommended by the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-2023).

While the curriculum for senior secondary classes (XI-XII) was released today, the Board has scheduled a dedicated launch and orientation for Classes IX and X on April 2, 2026.

What’s New for Class IX and X?

The implementation of NCF-2023 represents a shift from traditional learning models. The 2026-27 curriculum aims to go beyond textbooks, emphasizing how students use their knowledge in real-world situations.

Key Pillars of the New Secondary Framework:

  • Competency-Based Education: Assessments will now focus more on critical thinking and problem-solving rather than rote memorization.
  • Multidisciplinary Approach: Breaking down the barriers between subjects so that students can see the "big picture".
  • Holistic Evaluation: A focus on the "360-degree" development of the learner, including life skills and values.
  • Experiential Learning: Increased emphasis on "learning by doing" through projects, laboratory work, and field experiences.

The "Scheme of Studies" Webinar

Understanding that these changes represent a significant shift for educators, CBSE is hosting a National Webinar to provide clarity on the revised "Scheme of Studies".

  • Date: April 2, 2026
  • Time: 3:00 PM IST
  • Venue: CBSE Headquarters Auditorium, Dwarka (and streamed online)
  • Access Link: Watch Live on YouTube

The Board has specifically urged school leaders to pay close attention to the "Initial Pages" of the Curriculum Secondary Part-I document, as these contain the essential guidelines for implementing these structural changes.

Action Plan for Schools and Parents

Dr. Praggya M. Singh, Director (Academics), has issued a directive to all affiliated schools to make sure that no student or teacher is left uninformed.

  1. Immediate Access: Schools must download the updated curriculum from the CBSE Academic Portal.
  2. Teacher Training: Schools should ensure their teachers are aware of the changes to teaching styles required by NCF-2023.
  3. Special PTMs: A unique requirement this year is the call for Special Parent-Teacher Meetings. The goal of these sessions is to inform parents about the most important aspects of the new curriculum so they can support these new teaching approaches at home.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has officially released the curriculum for Classes XI and XII for the academic session 2026–27 on April 1, 2026.

This curriculum reform marks a crucial step in transforming India’s school education system, making it more inclusive, practical, and aligned with global standards.
