The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Wednesday that it had successfully thwarted a denial-of-service (DoS) cyberattack involving 3.8 million packets on its re-evaluation website. The board confirmed that the portal had accepted more than 56,000 applications for verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 answer books as of 9:30 pm on the same day.
In a post on X, the CBSE stated: “This afternoon a 3.8 Million packet Denial of service attack on the website was successfully thwarted.” The board added that its technical teams are actively monitoring performance and introducing refinements to ensure a smoother and faster experience for students.
Multiple payment gateways are available on the verification and re-evaluation portal, including those from State Bank of India (SBI), Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Indian Bank. The CBSE clarified that students do not need to hold accounts with these banks to complete payments. SBI reported that its gateway had processed over 40,000 payments so far. Indian Bank noted that more than 5,000 customers from various banks had used its gateway. Canara Bank stated that over 4,000 customers had utilised its service, while Bank of Baroda said it had successfully processed more than 7,500 transactions.
The portal was launched after a delay; the CBSE had earlier indicated that applications for verification and re-evaluation would begin by May 29. The development follows concerns raised by some students and parents regarding the on-screen marking (OSM) system used for Class 12 board exams. The board has faced criticism over technical glitches, payment failures, and access-related issues during the process.
The CBSE opened the online portal on Tuesday for students dissatisfied with their Class 12 evaluation. The facility allows students to apply for verification of issues observed in scanned copies of their answer books and to request re-evaluation. According to the board, this service is available only to students who have already obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books.
The CBSE urged students to rely only on official communications for accurate information. The board continues to monitor the portal’s performance to address any remaining issues.
