A student from Odisha's Mayurbhanj district has reported a significant discrepancy in the CBSE Class XII evaluation process, alleging errors in the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system led to a loss of marks. The incident involves a girl from OAV in Bireswarpur under Badasahi block, who claims her Physics answer sheet was mishandled during scanning and evaluation.
According to the student's allegations, pages 14 and 15 of her answer booklet were scanned twice, while pages 16 and 17 were not scanned at all. As a result, the answers written on those unscanned pages were not evaluated, causing a reduction in her marks. She further alleged that page 13, though scanned, was not marked by the evaluator.
The case has added to the controversy surrounding CBSE's OSM system, coming after recent concerns over the NEET question paper leak. The alleged irregularities have placed the Union Education Ministry under increased scrutiny.
Opposition parties have intensified their criticism of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan amid rising dissatisfaction among students across the country. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met a group of affected students and raised questions about the awarding of the OSM contract, alleging it was granted to a company lacking adequate infrastructure and capability.
CBSE has stated that the weaknesses and issues identified in the OSM portal are being examined and reviewed. The Union Education Minister has also assured action over evaluation irregularities.
