The Supreme Court has sought a detailed response from the Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) over complaints related to the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for evaluating answer sheets.

The court is particularly examining grievances from students who were unable to use the one-week grievance window provided for raising concerns about their evaluation. The Centre has been directed to file its affidavit by Monday.

The matter has gained importance as the admission season is currently underway, with students relying on their board examination results for higher education. The court will consider whether students affected by alleged evaluation lapses should be given an additional opportunity to seek redressal.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the court seeks clearer rules for examinations conducted through the OSM system and a more effective mechanism for addressing student complaints related to evaluation.

The Supreme Court's intervention could have implications for students who believe errors in the evaluation process affected their marks and future academic opportunities. The court is expected to examine the Centre and CBSE's response before deciding on further directions.
